Abadia de Acon’s 2005 Reserva features roasted black fruits, confiture of blackberry, and plenty of spice. Dense and rich on the palate in a big, brawny style, it has enough underlying structure to keep through 2025. It will become more civilized with another 4-5 years of cellaring. The 2005 Acon Reserva spent 18 months in barrel. It is a blend of 85% Tempranillo and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon. It is opaque purple with a brooding bouquet of wood smoke, incense, and compote of blackberry. Dense, layered and tannic, it has all the right stuff but will require a minimum of 4 years of cellaring to fully blossom. This powerhouse will drink well from 2015 to 2030. The opaque purple-colored 2004 Reserva was aged in French and Hungarian oak for 18 months. The slightly reticent bouquet offers up cedar, spice box, mineral, blackberry, and black cherry. This is followed by a medium to full-bodied firm wine with plenty of savory black fruit, licorice, and spice notes.
