The 2011 Collio Pinot Grigio is a unique white wine that shows impressive power and complexity. It rests on its lees for 18 months in oak. As a result, the wine shows unique thickness in the mouth with broad aromas of stone fruit, honeydew melon and a touch of freshly baked bread. Fruit is harvested from a vineyard that was planted in 1970. Beyond the fleshy texture on display is a drying note of mineral or flint. Drink: 2014-2018.
Aldo Polencic is a small, off the radar producer with a fine collection of territory-driven wines. Great care has been taken each step of the winemaking process (despite the difficulties of the 2011 vintage) and these wines are well worth seeking out.
