There is even more honey and ripe fruit in the 2014 Collio Pinot Grigio (with 5,000 bottles made) than the other new releases from Aldo Polencic, with plenty of peach and stone fruit on the nose. There is also some oak-driven savory spice on the close. This expression shows a good deal of heft, but it's a sophisticated wine nonetheless. It's a bit sweet and thick on the close. You might pair this one with slices of rosemary-infused pork.

The 2011 Collio Pinot Grigio is a unique white wine that shows impressive power and complexity. It rests on its lees for 18 months in oak. As a result, the wine shows unique thickness in the mouth with broad aromas of stone fruit, honeydew melon and a touch of freshly baked bread. Fruit is harvested from a vineyard that was planted in 1970. Beyond the fleshy texture on display is a drying note of mineral or flint. Drink: 2014-2018. Aldo Polencic is a small, off the radar producer with a fine collection of territory-driven wines. Great care has been taken each step of the winemaking process (despite the difficulties of the 2011 vintage) and these wines are well worth seeking out.
