The saturated black/purple-colored 1997 Vina Hormigas Reserva offers aromas of ripe black fruits, as well as hints of cedar and asphalt. This wonderfully structured and powerful wine is crammed with embracing layers of blackberries, cassis, as well as touches of freshly ground black pepper. It is an intensely flavorful wine, yet Old World elegance can be discerned in its warm, enveloping layers of fruit. Immensely drinkable today, it has the requisite fruit and structure for aging. Projected maturity: now-2010+. A Marc de Grazia Selection, imported by Michael Skurnik, Syosset, NY; tel. 516-677-9300.
