A blend of 37% Grenache, 33% Syrah, 29% Mourvedre, and 1% Viognier, the 2007 Zephyr is reminiscent of a French-styled Cotes du Rhone made in California. Seductive notes of kirsch liqueur, pepper, spice box, roasted Provencal herbs, and abundant fruit cascade over the palate in this medium-bodied, luscious, complex red. It will not make old bones, but for drinking over the next 3-5 years, it is a delicious wine. I have been impressed with Audelssa’s wines since their first vintage debuted less than a decade ago. All the fruit comes primarily from the steep, western slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains, and the winery is equally talented whether it’s turning out Bordeaux varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, or unleashing some complex, delicious Rhone Rangers.Tel.
