Well made for what it is: a sweet, barrel-fermented wine that tastes outright sugary. Amid the blatant sweetness there’s peach pit and almondy aromas, lots of barrel resin, and finally sweet, oaky mango and tropical fruit flavors. The 2009 Godello was barrel-fermented and aged in large French oak for 7 months. Light gold in color (from the oak), it displays notes of melon, mineral, jasmine, and nutmeg. Smooth-textured with the oak fully-integrated, this impeccably balanced Godello is likely to blossom even further over the next 12-18 months and provide pleasure for another 5 years.
