The 2009 Chardonnay Savoy Vineyard exhibits notes of honey, orange rind and caramelized citrus in a medium-bodied, gently oaked style with excellent concentration as well as varietal character. This evolved, forward Chardonnay should be drunk over the next several years. It’s hard to believe that Barnett Vineyards is already 27 years old. Located on a beautiful hillside high on Spring Mountain, they have branched out from their original Cabernet program to include Chardonnays and, more recently, Pinot Noirs, all of which merit attention.Tel. The vineyard is the source of fantastic Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays for several wineries, and Barnett scores big points with this lush, rich but balanced wine. It’s tremendous in pineapple, pear, green apple and oaky vanilla flavors, but beautifully balanced with firm acidity. Represents an impressive step forward for this bottling. ——S.H.(8/1/2009)—— 93
