The 1991 Mesoneros de Castilla Crianza exhibits an opaque ruby/purple color, and a tight but promising nose of black fruits, damp earth, and spices. Muscular and concentrated, with moderate tannin, and a full-bodied, highly-extracted, backward, pure, rich style, this bodegas' cellars are among the coldest of Spain, thus the unevolved state of this wine. It is an impressive, potentially 20-year wine that can be purchased for a song. Although accessible, it will not reach full maturity for another 2-3 years. This wine is made from an old clone of the Tempranillo grape, called Tinta del Pais. It is an impressive wine from an up and coming star of this undiscovered viticultural region.Importer: Fine Estates From Spain, Jorge Ordonez, West Roxbury, MA; tel. (617) 327-1613
