Poesia’s entry-level 2010 Torrontes was made with grapes from Salta, but the winery is in Mendoza so that appellation must be displayed on the label. It exhibits an alluring perfume of jasmine, lemon zest, honey, and tropical notes, leading to a dry, elegant style of Torrontes that is an excellent value meant for drinking over the next 12-18 months. Bodega Poesia is owned by Helene Garcin, proprietor of several excellent Bordeaux chateaux, in partnership with her husband. The consulting winemaker is Dr. Alain Reynaud. I was shown a vertical of the flagship cuvee Poesia from 2002 through a barrel-sample of the 2010. Alain Reynaud’s first vintage was 2004, and it seems to this taster that quality became ratcheted up a notch starting with this vintage. All of the wines, however, are outstanding with many years of life ahead. They have all been reviewed previously in this journal. From the beginning the wine has been aged in 100% new French oak for 18-24 months and bottled without fining or filtration.Importer: Bob Bofman Selections, Glenview, IL; tel. (512) 919-9463
