The 2006 Juan Rojo is 100% Tempranillo from 80+-year-old vines aged for 8 months in French oak. It delivers a superb bouquet of lightly roasted herbs, espresso, lavender, incense, black cherry, blackberry, and dark chocolate. This leads to a rich, succulent, seamless wine that manages to conceal enough structure for another 2-3 years of evolution. This lengthy effort will be at its best from 2012 to 2020. The dark ruby-colored 2005 Juan Rojo spent eight months in French oak. It gives up attractive aromas of cedar, spice box, black cherry, and black raspberry. Ripe, spicy, and intensely flavored, this rich effort will evolve for another 3-4 years and drink well through 2020. It is an excellent value. Smoky, spicy oak, leathery red fruit. Good acid balance and supple tannins. Lacks density but has fine weight and depth.
