Borgo del Tiglio's 2013 Collio Rosso Riserva (green label) opens to a delicately aged profile with crushed stone, spice and a touch of smoky caramel. This Merlot-based wine shows some hickory spice and dark baker's chocolate, with wild berry and tart cassis packed tight at the core. Previous releases had some Cabernet Sauvignon in a supporting role, but this edition puts the focus on Merlot. A nice match for beef Wellington, it is compact and firm, with a very linear and pure presentation that underlines the quality of the cool, fresh vintage. The wine is gracefully mid-weight in character with a long, polished finish. Even with eight years of age under its belt, this wine should continue its fascinating bottle evolution. About 1,200 bottles were released.

A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2008 Collio Rosso Riserva is an intense and compelling red wine that boasts a distinct personality. The bouquet peels back to reveal black cherry, olive and spice. Indeed, those lavish tones of cardamom and curry leaf give the wine an exotic or East-looking disposition. Church perfume and incense also appear, and add to the sophistication of the tertiary aromas that are on full and beautiful display. The wine is aged in barrique for two years.

The 2004 Rosso Riserva is a perfumed, elegant red laced with raspberries, flowers and spices in a refined, elegant expression of Merlot. The wine reveals compelling inner perfume and plenty of fruit in a subtle, decidedly feminine style framed by sweet, silky tannins. It is a gorgeous, polished offering from Borgo del Tiglio. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2022. This is a wonderful set of new releases from Borgo del Tiglio and proprietor Nicola Manferrari.
