Brancaia's 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is a dark and thickly concentrated wine with plenty of black fruit, spice, tar and campfire ash. This was a scorching hot and dry year, and this wine reminds you of this fact thanks to its concentration and thick density. There is some sweetness here, in the form of blackberry syrup and crème de cassis, and the wine's structure is apparent. Everything is enhanced and enlarged in this vintage. Although the score is similar, this wine is very different in character to the 2016 vintage. I've given this wine a shorter drinking window as well. Open it soon with some lamb and stuffed black olives. Some 20,000 bottles were made.

This wine sees fruit sourced from the warm and sunny Maremma area on coastal Tuscany. The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon shows an inky dark appearance with dark garnet color saturation. It offers a fine and chiseled aromatic profile with dark berry fruit followed by spice, anise seeds and an unmistakable balsamic note that reminds me of eucalyptus oil. This is a mid-weight expression of the grape that is both accessible and easy to drink straight out of the gate. It ages in neutral oak for 12 months. Some 20,000 bottles were made.

Here is a new expression from Brancaia. The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon opens to dark and exuberant fruit. The wine is layered and rich with a contemporary feel and personality. The bouquet delivers strong intensity but it never oversteps it varietal boundaries. It shows loads of rich and luscious black fruit with sweet spice and leather. I just love the texture offered here. The wine is powerful, yet exceedingly supple and and smooth at the same time. Fruit for this wine is sourced from Brancaia's property in Maremma on the Tuscan coast. Some 10,000 bottles were made.
