Tasted but no note provided. Craig and Claudia Broadley – whose son Morgan now works alongside – arrived in Oregon from Berkeley on a Pinot-growing mission more than three decades ago, and their production still originates largely in their own vineyard in Monroe, roughly midway between Corvalis and Eugene (though they also vinify inter alia a share of Shea). Far more impressive is the 2009 Pinot Noir Reserve. Spice notes, hints of oak, and an assortment of red fruits inform the nose of a complex, velvety-textured, succulent wine with enough structure to drink well through 2019. Broadley Vineyards is located in southern Willamette Valley closer to Eugene than Portland. The 2008 Pinot Noir Reserve is a 6-barrel cuvee blended from several vineyards. It exhibits more complexity than the preceding wines as well as greater depth, concentration, and length. It offers up a generous helping of spicy red fruits nicely balanced by lively acidity and enough ripe tannin to evolve for another 2-3 years. It will be at its best from 2012 to 2020. The 2007 Pinot Noir Reserve (900 cases) is 50% from Shea Vineyard Block 11 and 50% Zena’s Crown. It reveals darker fruit, earth notes, toast, and a hint of minerality. Supple, ripe, and round, this elegant effort is nicely balanced and has a lengthy, fruit-filled finish. It will be at its best from 2011 to 2019.
