Cantine Florio does a very nice job with its 2014 Passito di Pantelleria (500-mililiter). In fact, the wine reminds me very much of Donnafugata's Ben Ryé, one of the benchmark dessert wines from the beautiful island of Pantelleria. The bouquet displays dried apricot, honey and roasted almond. Dig deeper and finer aromas of prune, mineral and lemon custard also emerge from the fragrant bouquet.

The 2010 Passito di Pantelleria (500ml) opens to big fruit intensity with slightly oxidized notes of resin, tar and caramel. The wine offers a good deal of Sicilian sweetness in the mouth, but it also shows a burst of much needed acidity to keep the palate refreshed. It should age steadily for many years to come.
