This shows notes of dried strawberries and cranberries with citrus peel and hibiscus undertones. Medium-bodied, vivid and fresh with chalky tannins, that are a little chewy, but also have some crunchiness to them. It’s floral, red-fruited and already attractive, but better after two or three years.

Kirsch, raspberry and floral flavors highlight this juicy red, which is firm, slightly chewy even, with hints of licorice, menthol and white pepper. A dense and tightly structured red, this reveals cherry, strawberry, iron, tar and eucalyptus flavors. Beefy tannins uphold the finish, where the lasting impression is a beam of cherry. Brilliant cherry and strawberry fruit is shaded by notes of hay, broom and iron in this red, which is succulent and firmly structured, offering dusty tannins that line the finish. Overall, this is balanced and open, with ripe fruit returning on the lingering finish. From one of my favorite sites in the village of Barbaresco, the Carlo Giacosa 2018 Barbresco Montefico shows elegance and grace although this house style is a little understated or timid overall, or at least it seems that way from this new batch of new releases. White licorice and dried violets show up in this release. 7,160 bottles were produced.
