The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino opens to soft layers of plush fruit and red cherry. The wine shows a ripe side to the vintage with bold fruit that is chewy and rich. Despite the wine's opulence, it never feels jammy or overdone. In fact, it reins in that extra sunshine with expert care and attention. In contrast to the richness of the bouquet, the medium-bodied mouthfeel is toned and exhibits less dimension overall. The appeal here is genuine and immediate.

From one of the most time-tested estates in Montalcino, the 2010 Brunello di Montalcino opens to a beautiful appearance that is dark ruby and saturated, but not exaggeratedly extracted. In fact, the 2010 vintage is noticeably more elegant and feminine compared to past vintages from Camigliano that produces wine that often taste jammy and overripe. In fact, the mouthfeel doesn't even offer the obvious fruit you might expect. Instead, it shows a tight weave of spice, rosemary oil and blackcurrant. This wine is all about small details and needs a few more years to complete its evolution.

The 2009 Brunello di Montalcino shows evolved notes of dried cherry and prune with cured meat, smoked bacon and cigar box at the back. This is an expressive and generous wine that excels in terms of the generosity of its fruit, although the mouthfeel is simple and soft. Drink: 2015-2019. Camigliano is among the most historic and largest properties in Montalcino (totaling 530 hectares, of which 90 are planted to vine). The estate faithfully reflects the geologic and climatic characteristics often attributed to this unique parcel of the appellation. Indeed, many have suggested that the hamlet of Camigliano and half-dozen or so estates located here become their own subzone. I agree that among the many sketches for proposed subzones already on the table, Camigliano shows highly distinctive traits that set it apart. Altitudes are lower and average temperatures are a few degrees higher resulting in faster ripening times, softer tannins and lower acidity. Camigliano's 2009 Brunello seems to have taken some of the brunt of the summer heat, but the estate's other red wines showed nicely. Only the Moscadello di Montalcino is not imported. The 2008 Brunello di Montalcino wraps around the palate with layers of rich, layered fruit. Though not particularly refined, the 2008 offers plenty of early appeal. It is a typical wine from the Camigliano zone, where Brunellos tend to be built on fruit rather than structure. Dried flowers, sage and mint are woven into the supple, gracious finish.
