The 1997 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva has evidently fleshed out over the years, resulting in a bold, meaty, muscular, brooding Brunello. The thickness and density of the wine came as a total surprise as does the intensity of those roasted coffee bean and black licorice aromas. The main drawback is the tough astringency of the tannin that has not softened over these years of aging and probably never will. Drink: 2014-2022.
