The 2001 Borro al Fumo combines raspberry and blackberry fruit, chocolate, and roasted coffee in a powerful, rich format, very full on the development and close and with another dozen years of life ahead.
Castello di San Sano, a substantial property, extends over a high plateau between Castello di Ama and San Felice in Gaiole in Chianti. There has long been considerable potential here, but the vineyards were in very poor shape when the estate was purchased 15 years ago. Replanting, investment, and the informed work of consulting oenologist Beppe Caviola have done the rest, and these first releases with the San Sano label are an impressive group.
