This is a delicious wine that many readers will find even better than my rating suggests. Although not complex, it is loaded with fun and fruit, extremely pure (because of clean, healthy vinifications), and well-balanced, with fruit-dominated personalities. I highly recommend it even though my scoring system does not do justice to wine such as this that represents 100% pleasure, yet may not be that complex.
The serious 1998 Malandrino is a blend of Montepulciano and Cabernet Sauvignon. It offers delicious, exuberant, fruity characteristics and is dense, with lots of ripeness, and some structure. A deep ruby color is followed by knock-out aromatics (particularly if you are a fruit fanatic), excellent purity, and a supple, medium-bodied, lusty finish. Drink it over the next 3-4 years.
