This cooperative has a good track record of turning out value-priced reds from the St.-Joseph appellation. Given the explosively high prices encountered for most northern Rhones, it is rewarding to find wines of this quality at such reasonable prices.
A fine cuvee is the 1998 St.-Joseph Cuvee Cote Diane, which saw about 25% new oak casks. It boasts a dark ruby color as well as a sweet, jammy nose of cherry liqueur, blackberries, and cassis. There is lovely sweet fruit on the attack, with plenty of glycerin, medium body, excellent extract, soft tannin, and a sense of elegance and complexity. It is a beautifully made St.-Joseph to drink over the next 6-7 years.
