The 2009 Portal is composed of 40% Garnacha, 20% Carinena, with the balance Syrah, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon aged in barrel for 6 months. The nose exhibits a slightly roasted character along with damp earth, fresh herbs, mineral, floral, and black fruit aromas. This is followed by a savory, spicy, medium-bodied red with good volume and a fruit-filled finish. It is a good value for drinking over the next 4-5 years. The 2007 Portal Red is a blend of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon, Garnacha, Merlot, Tempranillo, and Syrah aged for six months in French, American, and Hungarian oak. Dark ruby-colored, the nose exhibits earth notes, cedar, tobacco, cassis, cherry, and blackberry. Ripe and sweet on the palate, licorice, dried herbs and mineral notes make an appearance leading to a lengthy, pure, fruit-filled finish. Drink this tasty effort over the next four years. Celler Vinos Pinol was founded in 1945 and today is led by the fourth generation of the family.
