The 2007 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Castellum Vetus is a pretty wine laced with crushed flowers, red berries and sweet spices. The juiciness of the fruit dries out a bit on the mid-palate, exposing the tannin and drying out the finish. Still, the underlying material is strong enough to suggest that with a little more attention this could be a significantly better wine. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2017.
