The 1998 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Privilege* sees some new oak, but all of its gorgeous flavors, glycerin, richness, and aromatic nuances will stay intact as it will not be subjected to the fining and filtration other cuvees must endure. This example of old vine Grenache offers a deep ruby/purple color in addition to a sweet nose of Asian spices, licorice, pepper, and jammy black fruits. Full-bodied, ripe, and chewy, with high alcohol, impressive extract, and a touch of new oak, this should drink well upon release, and last for 15+ years.
