The 2017 Cote Rotie Rozier combines herbal notions with dark fruit on the nose, adding hints of black olive and licorice. It's medium to full-bodied and silky-textured—a solid effort but not particularly outstanding. Drink it over the next decade.

The 2016 Cote Rotie Rozier incorporates a hefty 10% Viognier, unusual for this portion of the appellation. I wouldn't say it's apparent in this wine, except perhaps in its lush, creamy texture. The aromas of this medium to full-bodied wine are firmly in the dark side of the spectrum: espresso, black olive and asphalt.

A big monster of a wine is the 2015 C?te R?tie Rozier, which is packed with notions of black fruits, charred meats, licorice and smoked earth. Full-bodied, concentrated and dense yet with a seamless texture and a great finish, it’s loaded with potential but is going to require patience.

The most masculine and mineral-driven of the bunch, the 2014 C?te R?tie Rozier comes all from the rocky, schist soils of the Rozier lieu-dit located in more northern/C?te Brune end of the appellation. Completely destemmed, it surprisingly incorporates 10% Viognier, and in general, you see less and less Viognier in wines from this region of the appellation. Crushed rocks, graphite, charcoal and smoked dark fruits dominate the bouquet; it’s medium-bodied, firm and edgy on the palate, with fine tannin. It has outstanding potential, but should warrant short term cellaring.

Possessing additional purity and richness, with crushed stone, charcoal, raspberry, oak and hints of meatiness, the 2011 Cote Rotie Rozier (which is in the northern, more Cote Brune-styled part of the appellation) is medium-bodied, fresh, lively and brilliantly focused and pure on the palate. A completely destemmed blend of 92% Syrah and 8% Viognier that spent 13 months in 100% new French oak, it should have over a decade of evolution.
