Rivetti’s 2006 Barbaresco Bricco di Neive is a surprisingly fresh, vinous wine in this vintage, with tons of juicy, ripe fruit. The wine reveals good length on the palate and excellent overall balance. I admit I am a bit puzzled by the style here, as this wine stands apart from every other Barbaresco I tasted for its intense fruitiness. The 2005 Barbaresco Bricco is one of the better wines I have tasted here in some time. An exciting array of wild cherries, licorice, tar and smoke flow from the glass as this masculine Barbaresco opens to reveal the full breadth of its personality. This part of Neive is known for yielding big, structured wines, qualities this Barbaresco has in spades. The wine continued to develop beautifully in the glass, suggesting it is holding back much of its ultimate potential at this early stage. This is an outstanding effort. Dante Rivetti’s 2004 Barbaresco Bricco de Neveis is a soft, accessible wine with suggestions of dried flowers, cherries, toasted oak and spices. Judging by its slightly advancing color and flavors, this feminine, delicate Barbaresco will offer its finest drinking sooner rather than later. Anticipated maturity: 2007-2014.
