The 2021 Single Vineyard Cabernet Malbec is poised and concentrated, but it runs with a line of sappiness and stalk that I find surprising given the vineyard positioning (central Wilyabrup) and the produce/house style. It speaks more of pink peppercorn and raspberry as the wine opens up, but it cannot escape the thread of subtly green inflection in the wine. The 2020 before it was sensational and intense. This remains very pretty but far edgier and more tense. This is what we accept and love about single-vineyard wines: the vintage variation. 14% alcohol, sealed under srew cap.

The fruit for this 2020 Single Vineyard Cabernet Malbec was sourced from the Deep Woods Home Block Vineyard, up in the Yallingup Hills, planted in 1985. It is inky, pure and concentrated and is framed by such succulent tannins that it becomes difficult (and immaterial) to attempt to define where the fruit ends and the tannins start. It is seamless. While this wine drinks beautifully in its youth (and it does... it is hard to see how any bottles will escape being scoffed in the short term), patience is recommended—it will surely evolve and blossom over the decades.

A 70-30 blend sourced from the Yallingup subregion of Margaret River, the 2017 Single Vineyard Cabernet Malbec features ripe cassis and black cherry notes. It's medium to full-bodied, plush and velvety, with a long, vanilla-stained finish. It should drink well for at least a decade.
