Two outstanding 2009 St.-Josephs prove just how remarkably consistent this vintage is in the Northern Rhone. The 2009 St.-Joseph exhibits a dense ruby/purple color as well as notes of raspberries, crushed rocks, licorice and forest floor. With a supple texture and medium to full body, it is a beautiful expression of Syrah grown in the granite soils of this appellation. It should drink nicely for 5-7 years. This is my first experience with this domaine, but I loved what I tasted. The dark ruby/purple color displays the ripeness and highly pigmented color most 1990s were able to achieve in St.-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage, and Hermitage. The nose offers up pure aromas of black fruits. Rich, full-bodied, and chewy, with plenty of soft tannins, adequate acidity, and a fleshy, mouthfilling finish, this well-balanced wine is tempting to drink now.
