A luxury cuvée aged in 100% new barriques, the 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape Saint Georges offers up scents of wine-soaked oak alongside cherries and raspberries. More vibrant and fresh than the regular cuvée, it's medium to full-bodied and still not that rich or concentrated but is silky and harmonious, with a longer finish. Drink it over the next 7 or 8 years.

While the sample of the regular bottling seemed oxidized and wasn't reviewable, Galevan's 2018 Chateauneuf du Pape Saint Georges is a rich, Grenache-based supercuvée aged in new barrels. Loaded with vanilla, cedar and baking spices, it backs up that oaky veneer with plush black cherries and plums. Full-bodied and velvety in texture, it should drink well young, yet have the ability to age up to a decade.

Some readers may rate the 2010 Chateauneuf du Pape St.-Georges Blanc even higher than I. It is a concentrated, medium to full-bodied white revealing delicate pear, honeysuckle and marmalade notes intermixed with hints of quince and crushed rocks. Stylish and flavorful, it should provide plenty of pleasure over the next several years. This relatively small Chateauneuf du Pape estate is owned by Coralie Goumarre.
