Rich aromas of plums, dark chocolate and spices introduce the 2018 Beaune 1er Cru Les Toussaints, a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and enveloping wine that's lively but gourmand, with a generous core of fruit and fine, powdery tannins.

The 2017 Beaune 1er Cru Les Toussaints bursts with aromas of strawberry, cherries, sweet soil tones and licorice. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied and fleshy, though it isn't quite as lavish at the Cent Vignes, displaying good tension at the core and a spicy finish.

The 2016 Beaune 1Er Cru les Toussaints has a deep color. This has an intense bouquet with black cherries, blueberry and crushed violet aromas. Like some of Xavier's other reds, I would like to see more precision here. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannin, nicely structured and focused although the oak needs to be fully subsumed on the stocky, lightly spiced finish, so afford this another couple of years in bottle.

The 2015 Beaune 1er Cru les Toussaints has a very attractive, quite floral bouquet, the most exotic of the domaine's 2015s with hints of marmalade and hoisin developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannin, grainy in texture with good backbone, although I find more precision on the finish on the Beaune Cents-Vignes at the moment. Still, this is worth seeking out and it should drink well for several years.

The 2014 Beaune 1er Cru Les Toussaints comes from vines planted in 1978, 1998 and 2013 with clones that tend to produce a small number of buds. It was matured in one-third new oak. It has a lovely bouquet, very pure with raspberry preserve, crushed strawberries and wilted rose petals that are all beautifully interwoven with the oak. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, very good depth with clean, vibrant red cherry and raspberry fruit, a gentle grip on the extended finish. This is my pick of Monnot's reds and it is worth hunting down.
