The intensely golden-yellow colored 2019 Bernkasteler Lay Riesling GG shows a deep and ripe, pretty intense and darker-toned Riesling bouquet with notes of super ripe stone fruits and crushed slate. Round and intense on the palate, with fine acidity, this is a full-bodied, long and quite complex Lay Riesling with mango flavors on the finish. The wine is pure and elegant, rather lean but flavorful. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted from AP 04 21 in November 2021.

Vinified in a new 2,400-liter barrel until summer this year, the 2018 Bernkasteler Lay Riesling GG is intense yet also subtle and pure on the ripe and aromatic yet coolish and refined nose with its darker-toned flinty and fruity notes. Creamy, intense and very elegant on the palate this is a full-bodied, complex and sustainable Riesling with intense fruit, fine tannins and lingering, crystalline, classy acidity. This is possibly not really what you might expect from a Mosel Riesling, but then you better widen your horizon and try the Lay again in 3-4 years. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.

A hint of bitter citrus pith on the attack smooths out beautifully, evolving into sweet-tasting stone fruit, honey and creme caramel notes on this rich, balanced wine. Touches of sea salt and crushed stone add minerality to the medium-long finish. — (2/1/2013) —90

Despite this wine’s intense richness and ample residual sugar, it is so well balanced that it does not come across as being particularly sweet. Hints of flint or crushed stone amplify the purity of the fresh apple and peach fruit and linger elegantly on the finish of this full-bodied auslese.
