Picked with 30% strictly selected botrytis grapes in the middle of October, the 2022 Erdener Treppchen Riesling Auslese (Gold Capsule) is intense and elegant on the well concentrated and slightly flinty nose. There are also saffron aromas that I haven't picked up since the 2014 vintage in the Mosel. On the palate, this is a lush and savory, quite pure and fresh but textured Auslese with quite intense fruit and a saline, tight and grippy finish. Still very young but juicy and intense, this Auslese will benefit from further bottle aging. 7.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in May 2023.

Picked around November 10 and so to say the negative selection of the TBA that was picked in the same go, the 2021 Erdener Treppchen Riesling Auslese (Gold Capsule) is based on 50% botrytis grapes and opens with a very fine raisin aroma with grapefruit and slate aromas. Concentrated and viscous on the highly elegant and finessed palate and with the sweetness lifted by the precise and sharp acidity (9.8 grams per liter), this is a spectacular, Eiswein-like Auslese with great precision and sustainable salinity and terroir expression. Made to be aged or at least appreciated for decades. 7% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in July 2022.

Picked at 105° Oechsle, the 2020 Erdener Treppchen Riesling Auslese (Gold Capsule) is the negative selection of the TBA. The wine opens with very clear, precise, amazingly nuanced, pure and delicate yet also intense fruit intertwined with layers of slate and minerals. Very pure and immediately salty and salivating on the palate, with vibrantly fresh but fine acidity and perfectly ripe and refined fruit, this is a fabulous, intense, concentrated and anything but fat or generous Auslese. It is rather serious and discreet but bears a lot of energy and huge aging capacity due to its vibrant acidity, sustainable salinity, remarkable grip and finesse. A fabulous wine and one of the radiant highlights of the 2020 portfolio from Christian Hermann, who has established himself as one of the greatest sweet Riesling producers in the Mosel in recent years. 7% stated alcohol, 105 grams per liter of residual sugar (total acidity: 8.3 grams per liter). Natural cork. 2000 bottles made. Tasted from AP 13 21 in November 2021.

The 2017 Erdener Treppchen Riesling Auslese Gold Capsule is super clear, precise and concentrated on the nose, with tobacco and stone fruit aromas. The palate is lush, piquant, salty and very elegant, with fascinating precision and mineral grip. This gorgeous Auslese includes 20% to 30% raisins rather than botrytis grapes. Tasted in March 2019.

Picked early (in mid-October) with often just 10% of botrytis, the 2015 Erdener Treppchen Riesling Auslese Gold Capsule is very clear, fresh and concentrated on the nose, with complex slate and citrus-fruit aromas; it also has a cool precision that almost reminds me of an ice wine. Super piquant and elegant on the palate, this is a laser beam of an Auslese—so perfectly focused, intense and energetic, with so much salt and tension. But it also has a generously lush and perfectly balanced fruit. This is a great and finessed Auslese and pretty unique in its style. Total acidity is 9.9 grams per liter. Just one fuder has been produced, so roughly 1,000 liters. The same picking of the 4.2 hectares brought 100 liters of Trockenbeerenauslese.
