The smaller-production (around 2000 cases) 2008 Gypsy Black Shiraz is fermented with wild yeast and is aged 18 months in seasoned large and small oak. Deep garnet-purple in color, it has an intense warm blackberry nose with supporting notes of spice and anise, some forest floor and mocha. The palate is surprisingly elegant with a medium body, medium-firm finely grained tannins, crisp acid, good concentration and a long savory finish. Enjoy it now through 2015+. Earthworks is a joint venture between Yalumba and Langmeil designed to utilize some of the 750 or so family growers in the Barossa Valley. Yalumba currently work with around 80 and Langmeil around 20. Winemakers Andy La Nauze (I love that name) and Tyson Bitter adeptly craft a collection of wines that represent very good value.Importer: Negociants USA, Napa, CA; tel. (707) 259-0993
