The 2001 is superior to its 2000 counterpart. The 2001 Syrah Reid Vineyard reveals austerity as well as additional vanilla, toasty new oak, and deep cherry fruit characteristics. It is a lean, restrained example that should drink well for 5-6 years. Tel. (805) 238-9607

Like Eberle’s Steinbeck Syrah, the flavors here are excellent, suggesting spicy plums and blackberries, with a rich edge of ground coffee and a melange of spices and dried herbs.
