The 2010 Moscato d’Asti Clarte is another of Italy’s great dessert wines. Low yields and a superb site result in one of the most intense Moscati readers are likely to come across. It is not an understatement to say this is a wine that literally redefines what is possible with the grape. Exotic flowers, lime, green pears and the essence of crushed rocks flow effortlessly from this dazzling wine. The Clarte has the focus and cool, piercing minerality of a great Chablis, but of course with the sweetness of Moscato. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2013.
Stefano Perrone makes a number of delicious wines, but truly excels with his Moscati and other sweet wines. I always try to have a few bottles on hand.
