The 2018 Carmignano Riserva is in a very pretty place right now, showing lots of fruit concentration but also revealing slightly aged hints that add more depth and complexity to the overall presentation. Black cherry, plum and blackcurrant segue to spice, potting soil and cured leather. This is a generous, full-bodied Tuscan blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon.

The 2016 Carmignano Riserva is a dark and well-concentrated blend of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon. There is a lot of richness here and a good amount of oak spice too that comes on the heels of blackberry preserves and black cherry confit. Those aromas shift to tobacco and barbecue smoke. The wine ultimately delivers the heft and power to pair next to a succulent cut of red meat. You need that softness to cut through the tannins present here. The wine is almost too much, so take care with your choice of food pairing.

The 2014 Carmignano Riserva reveals a dark profile that is based on black fruit and smoky spice. In that tug-of-war between sweet and savory, this wine moves closer to the savory side of the spectrum. There is a lot of moist tobacco, cured meat and crushed clove on display. These aromas are a bit heavy-footed and overpowering especially in this less fruit-driven vintage.

The Tenuta le Farnete 2013 Carmignano Riserva is mostly Sangiovese (80%) with a smaller part Cabernet Sauvignon. There's an attractive wild side to this wine that resembles forest floor, moist earth, dried fruit and button mushroom, as well as autumnal leaf. These aromas are very characteristic of the Sangiovese grape that dominates the taste profile of this pretty Tuscan red wine. The mouthfeel offers sturdy texture and medium weight.
