Triebaumer’s 2006 Cabernet Sauvigon – Merlot offers another demonstration that 2006 was above average in Burgenland for ripening the great grape of the Medoc and Napa as well ... but that the results will still not come close to the delicious distinctiveness or complexity of Blaufrankisch. This offers bitter black fruits and graphite and crushed stone senses of underlying mineral character, but comes off overall as rather severe, its glycerin imposing but insufficient to completely coat its firm tannins, which perhaps a few years in bottle will round out. A certain loamy earthiness I associate with Merlot is present, but without any perfuming or softening effect.Importer: Vin Divino, Chicago, IL; tel. (773) 334 6700
