The 2008 Obra Prima Malbec Coleccion contains 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot in its blend and was aged for 18 months in new French oak before bottling without fining or filtration. It displays considerably more richness than the Reserva cuvee along with greater depth and length. Familia Cassone’s 2005 Obra Prima Colleci?n Malbec was sourced from two vineyards planted in 1915. It contains 10% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 18 months in new French oak. A glass-coating opaque purple, the nose is a bit muted but with coaxing offers up notes of toasty oak and assorted black fruits. Medium- to full-bodied on the palate with some elegant restraint, it has ample sweet fruit, ripe underlying tannin, and complex flavors.
