A substantial producer in the Abruzzo with 75 acres of vineyards, Nicodemi, like others in the region, appears to have changed his philosophy and is working to achieve higher quality. The 2000 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Riserva, paradoxically, is not as satisfying as the 2001 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, less focused and clean in its aromas, harder and drier in its structure and texture. But there’s a simple explanation – the arrival of winemaker Paolo Caciorgna in 2001, and the Riserva of this vintage promises to be something special.
