The Nicodemi 2014 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colline Teramane Riserva Neromoro is a well-built red wine to pair with grilled or roasted meats. It offers soft layers of spice and dark fruit with mild structure and lots of dense fiber to compensate (thanks to 18 months in oak). This wine comes from a difficult vintage that was slowed down by abundant rain and cooler than normal temperatures. As a result, the finish is slightly shorter and more compact. Some 10,000 bottles were made.

The 2011 Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Colline Teramane Riserva Neromoro shows deep oak sophistication and a lush, velvety texture. The oak definition is one of the wine's most defining characteristics (it sees 16 months in French barrique). The 2001 vintage was the inaugural edition of this wine. Fruit is harvested from 40-year-old vines with calcareous and clay soils.

The 2006 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Riserva Neromoro is a fabulous wine. Intense dark fruit, grilled herbs, earthiness, licorice, menthol and spices flow effortlessly as the Neromoro opens up in the glass. This fat, juicy Montepulciano is yet another reminder of just how delicious the finest Montepulcianos are. 2003 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Riserva Neromoro takes things to another level. It is a big, deeply-colored wine imbued with black cherries, spices, tobacco and sweet toasted oak. This full-bodied red offers terrific balance in a sumptuous style. The oak is present but beautifully balanced. Sweet notes of licorice and autumn leaves linger on the long finish. The 2001 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo Colline Teramane Riserva Neromoro (a mouthful of a name, but Colline Teramane, a newly recognized sub-zone of superior level, is worth looking for) offers strong competition to important names in the region, jammy, spicy, and penetrating in aroma, lush but very focused and layered on the palate, firm but with an irresistible light-graininess which keep the alcohol and ripeness from getting out of hand.
