Here's a dark, saturated and very open expression of Sangiovese. A release of 7,400 bottles and 300 magnums, the Ferrero 2015 Brunello di Montalcino is ready to drink straight out of the gate with a porcini mushroom risotto. Bold cherry and dried blackberry are backed by earthy tones, tobacco and cured leather. That immediate openness leads to oxidative tones of spice and dried cherry fruit not too long after the bottle is opened. I tasted this wine at two intervals, some 12 hours apart. There is some residual heaviness on the close, pushed along by a prominent 15% alcohol content.
