This is a very primary wine that is packed tight with inky ripe fruit from a hot vintage. The 2020 Montefalco Rosso is a blend of 70% Sangiovese, 15% Sagrantino and the rest going to a bit of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine shows dark cherry confit and blackberry preserves with lots of flabby density to cover the palate. The fruit might fall apart with age, so drink this wine young. Some 28,000 bottles were released.

There are jammy notes and overt ripeness in the 2018 Montefalco Rosso from Cantina Fratelli Pardi. You'll also find some leather, but meanwhile the fruit is a bit faded. For my tastes, this blend of Sangiovese, Sagrantino, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon is too simple and monotone, a bit closed and not very expressive overall. Some 28,000 bottles were made.

The 2005 Montefalco Rosso is a cask-aged blend of 70% Sangiovese, 15% Sagrantino and 15% Cabernet and Merlot. This pretty, fresh wine is made in a fruit-driven style that is sure to provide much enjoyment over the next few years. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2010. The Pardi family has been making wine since 1919, but only began estate-bottling with the 2003 vintage. These are richly-textured, modern-styled wines of notable class.
