Here is a wine with a distinct identity that shares little in common with the other wines in this portfolio. Pinot Nero in Piedmont is like a light bulb or a road sign, I am told, because it is one of the first grapes to ripen and it shows the way for the other later-ripening varieties, giving vintners pointers on how to proceed in any given vintage. The 2021 Langhe Pinot Nero is immediately remarkable thanks to its shiny color saturation. However, the bouquet was less expressive when I tasted the wine. There are violets and red fruits, but now that a few more months have passed since I tasted it, I expect the bouquet to be more forthcoming.

The G.D. Vajra 2017 Langhe Pinot Nero shows a classic portrait of the grape with those beautiful floral and wild berries aromas very much intact. The aromatic intensity and purity of this wine is its biggest attribute. Raspberry, violet, lavender and candied orange peel come into focus. The wine is silky and mild in terms of mouthfeel with a very lovely, light-weight approach. A ruby-colored light shines from within.
