Deep purple black colored, the 2009 ASIF Cabernet Sauvignon offers intense blackberry, black cherry and plum notes over violets, yeast extract, toast and soy. Richly fruited and full bodied on the palate, it gives a good backbone of crisp acidity and medium to firm grainy tannins, finishing long and purely fruited. The 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon Asif is purple/black in color. Plum, blackberry, and licorice aromas are followed by a firm, structured wine which is slightly sinewy but well balanced. The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon ASIF was aged for 23 month in 40% new French oak hogsheads. It is a glass-coating purple/black color with a brooding bouquet including notes of toast, pencil lead, black currant, and blackberry liqueur. Full-bodied, powerful, and well-balanced, this plush Cabernet will evolve for 4-6 years and drink well from 2013 to 2025. Glaymond is the hangout of rising star Damien Tscharke whose family owns the vineyards. They are located in some of the most prime real estate of Barossa Valley. The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon “Asif” was aged in French oak, 25% new. Purple-colored and glass-coating, it has an expressive bouquet of toasty oak, pencil lead, scorched earth, black currants, and blackberry liqueur. The wine’s full-bodied personality includes layers of spicy black fruits, ripe tannin, excellent balance, and a lengthy finish. Cellar this large-scaled Cabernet for 6-8 years and drink it through 2025. Congratulation to young Mr. Tscharke for an impressive collection of wines!Glaymond’s owner/winemaker is Damien Tscharke (whose namesake winery is reviewed in this report) with winemaking consultation from superstar Chris Ringland. The vineyards are owned by the Tscharke family which had previously sold the fruit to larger producers. The vines are in a tenderloin portion of the Barossa for growing top-class Shiraz.
