The 2007 Grauburgunder Rothuttl offers clear, ripe peach fruit tinged with smoke, and a fine balance of textural creaminess with refreshment, finishing with deep nuttiness and peachiness and slight warmth. I suspect it will be best enjoyed over the next couple of years. A 2006 Grauburgunder Rothhuttl offers a piquant, faintly bitter aroma featuring peach kernel and toasted hickory. Creamy and leesy on the palate, this nonetheless preserves a core of fresh, peachy fruit. Part of the fermentation takes place in demi-muids, but the wine is then quickly evacuated to large old ovals. Notes of lemon oil, peach kernel, toasted nuts, and wood smoke inform a long, pungent, faintly bitter finish. No doubt this could cellar nicely for at least 6-8 years.
