The 2005 Haan – Hanenhof Proprietary Red is a blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc which spent 12 months in 20% new French oak. Crimson-colored, it presents a fragrant bouquet of cedar, tobacco, clove, and red currant. Medium-bodied and supple-textured, this easy-going, seamless wine can be enjoyed over the next 5 years. Hans and Fransien Haan began operations in 1993 after purchasing a 45 acre Barossa vineyard located between Tununda and Angston. The second label for Haan, the monolithic Hanenhof 2002 Proprietary Red, a blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Merlot and Cabernet Franc, is the least expressive effort in this portfolio. The 2001 Hanenhof Proprietary Red, a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot, exhibits a deep ruby/purple color in addition to pure notes of black currants, espresso, chocolate, and wood.
