Wiemer’s 2003 Riesling Select Late Harvest Ice Wine offers aromas of candied lemon, apple jelly, quince, lemon, and fresh apple. Even more strikingly than in his other Rieslings, Wiemer manages to capture here great richness, including a creamy, oily texture, and yet preserve a lovely lightness. Spiced apple sauce, candied lemon, and honey inform the lingering and invigorating finish. Like its “Late Harvest” botrytis counterpart, this may not offer the last word in complexity but is a perfect example of how to capture the benefits of natural concentration without incurring any of the coarser, less endearing manifestations of freezing or rot.Tel.
