The brownish and orange color of the rim gives away the extra age and longer élevage of the fresh and harmonious 2016 Pérez Pascuas Gran Reserva, a special selection that's not produced every year. 2016 was a classical vintage, one of the finest in recent years and quite apt for producing wines with a longer élevage (26 months in barrel) and good aging potential. It has complexity, elegance and a very harmonious palate with velvety tannins, pungent flavors and great persistence—textbook Gran Reserva Ribera del Duero as I understand it. 2,430 bottles were filled in April 2019.

The beautiful but backward 1999 Gran Seleccion Gran Reserva requires additional bottle age. Complex and youthful, primary notes of lead pencil shavings, black currant liqueur, melted licorice, spice box, and sweet vanillin are followed by an opulent, medium to full-bodied wine with ripe tannin, a broad, expansive mid-section, and a long, tight finish.
