This is very ripe. Trop. Estery aromas of toffee apple, green papaya and banana peel subjugate any sense of underlying freshness. This is not a poor wine, but it is certainly difficult to drink more than a glass given its confected, bumptious nature. Drink now.

The 2019 Fiano di Avellino Gaudium from I Capitani is an easygoing and soft expression that is redolent of peaches and cream. You'll pick up plenty of mineral notes as well and maybe a touch of struck match. This is a smooth-sipping Southern Italian white to wash down a spicy grilled chicken sandwich. Some 12,000 bottles were produced.

Intensely aromatic, with abundant freshly chopped rosemary, cinnamon and caraway seed notes, this round, light- to medium-bodied white features zesty acidity and flavors of candied kumquat and baked plum that linger on the sweet-tart finish. Vintage after vintage, this wine maintains a high and consistent level of quality. The 2017 Fiano di Avellino Gaudium shows the richness and the natural thickness you get in hot vintages. That robust textural appeal is also a characteristic of limestone clay soils, like the ones found in this vineyard with 17-year-old plants. The bouquet is infused with honey, chamomile tea, wild sage and rosemary oil. At its core is a solid offering of stone fruit and melon. Some 15,000 bottles were produced.
