I Clivi's luminous and bright 2018 Friuli Colli Orientali Friulano San Pietro is such a pretty wine on many levels. The bouquet is delicate and mild, starting with white flower or jasmine and concluding with white peach and crisp pear. Stylistically, this Friulano prioritizes lightness and laser-sharp crispness. It is like a burst of sunlight in the glass, and its zesty and floral character would match nicely with some golden-fried trout filets.

The 2014 Friuli Colli Orientali Friulano San Pietro is disappointing in this difficult vintage. Given some sulfur or matchstick aromas at the outset, the wine may be slightly reduced. The soggy growing season also means that the mouthfeel is on the watery side. Friulano is my favorite white grape from northeast Italy, but this wine doesn't live up to its full potential.
