Il Colle’s 2007 Rosso di Montalcino is a beautifully ripe, opulent wine bursting with red berries, flowers and spices, all of which come together in a sensual, juicy style. This traditionally made, cask-aged Rosso owes a stylistic nod to the wines of Piero Palmucci at Poggio di Sotto. Not surprisingly, Il Colle also works with master taster Giulio Gambelli, the man who has shaped the wines of Montevertine, Soldera, Poggio di Sotto and others. Today some rough edges remain, and the alcohol could be better integrated, but there is more than enough sheer personality to merit a 90 point score if the wine comes together even more over the coming months. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2015.
