The radiant golden-yellow 2020 Enkircher Batterieberg Riesling comes from 80-year-old, ungrafted vines on gray slate and quartzite soils in the steep terraces of the Starkenburg slope and opens with a highly delicate yet also very deep and stony bouquet with perfectly concentrated ripe fruit aromas and notes of crushed stones and wild herbs. This is fascinatingly complex again, and at this early stage, it also has very fine gunpowder notes. Pure, fresh and intense on the palate, this is a dense, lush and firmly structured Batterieberg with a touch of sweetness on the finish. Bottled three weeks ago on October 11 (with the sulfur dose a few days before), this is a still-nervous but tensile and very promising wine that should be cellared for a year or three, if you like to enjoy a wide, relaxed and balanced grand cru. 12% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted on November 1, 2021.

The 2019 Enkircher Batterieberg Riesling is deep, pure and fresh on the concentrated and crunchy/slatey nose (gray slate with quartzite). Round and juicy as well as refined and piquant on the palate, this is a salty, rich and very long Riesling with fine tannins and succulent fruit thanks to 16.8 grams of residual sugar that are almost perfectly integrated already. Tasted at the domain in September 2020.

The 2018 Enkircher Batterieberg Riesling is very clear, ripe and intense on the concentrated nose but also elegant and provided with spicy slate aromas. The 80-year-old, ungrafted vines on gray slate soils with quartzite elements in the upper terraces of the cru give a crystalline, finessed and elegant but also powerful and intense Riesling of great complexity and length. The finish is very long and fruity and highly promising. However, with 11 grams per liter of residual sugar, this is not the normal Immich style, since the wine, like the 2017, did not ferment to fully dry. Tasted from AP 186 20 in April 2020.

From 80-year-old, ungrafted vines on gray slate with quartzite soils in the upper terraces of the cru, the 2017 Enkircher Batterieberg Riesling offers a super clear, fine, elegant, crystalline and deep bouquet with the open heart of a Condrieu. The nose is fabulously aromatic, intense, seamless and textured! Lush and round on the highly refined and elegant palate, the wine offers very fine tannins, lingering mineral freshness and crunchy salinity. This is a beautiful Riesling that did not ferment fully dry, stopping at 10.7 grams per liter of residual sugar. Gernot Kollmann wishes the wine would have fermented to fully dry, but as always, he didn't force it. However, the wine is beautifully ripe, lush and also balanced and will integrate its charming sweetness over the years. The sugar doesn't take anything away from the precision and terroir expression and will help the wine to age beautifully over at least a decade. I very much recommend this beauty. Tasted in March 2019.

From very shallow soil that is rich in quartzite, the 2016 Enkircher Batterieberg Riesling opens pure and very mineral on the smoky nose, with ripe mocha flavors from ripe pips and used barriques. Lush, rich and concentrated on the juicy yet structured palate, this is a round, complex and silky textured Riesling that was bottled in late December with 14 grams of unfermented sugar. It is crystalline, rich and lush but still elegant, with fine tannins and lingering salinity.
